Project Video - Editing and sound recording by Shiny Shiny Productions using parts of some songs written by participants on the tour.

Digital Music Workshop Series - September 2022.

This workshop made me love music
— Cody - 12 years

This workshop series has been designed for students and people interested in electronic music production, or for musicians who want to add elements to their music, live performance or recording. The workshop series was delivered in the Western Touring Circuit during September 2022 to the following communities:

Barcaldine, Blackall, Tambo, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Quilpie, Winton and Longreach.

The workshop taught the basic software skills required to produce music using Ableton Live as well as the foundations of how to use it for songwriting, arrangement and the endless possibilities for music creation.

Patty Preece is a producer and an Ableton Live certified trainer. Melania Jack is a songwriter, musician and Ableton Live user.

This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

I never would have been brave enough to try this without the workshop! I am so grateful for this opportunity to learn these new skills
— Lauren

Project Outcomes

Outcome 1: Connection to community.

Deliver workshops to regional Queenslanders, within a broad age bracket of - 5 year olds  to over 55's from many cultural backgrounds.

Outcome 2: Exposure to new technology, learning fundamental digital skills.

Workshop participants developed fundamental digital music skills within the relatable form of songwriting.

Outcome 3: The continuation of the learning.

The project established a link to the schools, teachers, community members and groups, leaving support materials (lesson plans) for ongoing learning and providing future support where required.

It was a fantastic chance for the kids to work together to produce their very own song; experimenting with rhythm and rhyme was particularly relevant to their learning. It was a very valuable experience of both music and technology that our rural students don’t often have exposure to. Thank you to Patty and Melania for coming all the way out through floodwaters and dust to give us this opportunity
— William
The crew was enthusiastic and worked well with the each and every one of the students. They made the song really relevant to our class and what we stand for. The students were actively engaged and there was never a dull moment. Our final piece will be one for the memory book
— Tianna
Valuable workshop and an awesome opportunity for the students to work on the creation of their very own digital music piece (and work on their rhyming skills!)
— Teacher
Fresh inspiration to get back into recording and producing
— Community participant
